Statement from EGM on Refugee Accounts on Social Media

The General Directorate of Security made an important statement about the accounts shared by refugees, which has been the main topic of discussion in Turkey’s agenda recently. EGM stated that some accounts aimed to cause internal turmoil by presenting themselves as refugees.

The problem of asylum seekers and refugees, which has been on the agenda for a long time in our country, has started to be discussed more intensely, especially in recent weeks, with the images published on social media. While the images that make new claims against refugees continue to be shared every day, A statement came from the General Directorate of Security.

General Directorate of Security, in a press release shared on social media accounts. that some accounts present themselves as ‘Afghan, Pakistani’ accounts. and in the country that they shared in order to cause internal confusion stated. The statement of the General Directorate of Security was as follows:

“Necessary investigations have been started”

“Virtual patrol activities are carried out on the internet on a 24/7 basis, with the aim of combating crime and criminals, within the framework of the authority given by the law, by the Department of Combating Cybercrime of the General Directorate of Security.

Within the scope of the virtual patrol activities carried out, it was observed that disinformation content was shared in order to cause internal turmoil in our country by presenting themselves as ‘Afghan, Pakistani’ accounts with provocative images that can be easily obtained from open sources on social media platforms, and necessary investigations were initiated.

This and similar operation calculations will not be allowed. It is announced to the public with respect.”
