Statement by Turkcell on Controversial Claims

Announcing in a message sent to all its employees in Istanbul that it will “work on technical infrastructure in its plazas” and that employees cannot enter the plazas until 06:00 on Monday, Turkcell was bombarded with criticism for this reason. CEO Murat Erkan clarified the issue.

As the whole of Turkey is locked in the elections that will be held this weekend, concerns about election security are escalating. In such an environment, all the Email sent to Turkcell plaza employees was interpreted differently due to concerns.

Making statements to HalkTV, Turkcell CEO Murat Erkan stated that the technical infrastructure works to be carried out from 18.00 on Friday to 06.00 on Sunday are implemented in every election. In the message Turkcell sent to its employees,VPN connection will not be possible either” stated that the detail is only related to in-house systems.
