Sonos: Patent lawsuit against Google successful

Santa Barbara It’s rare for smaller tech companies to engage in open conflict with the biggest tech companies in their industry. The loudspeaker supplier Sonos did this and successfully sued the world’s largest search engine operator Google. “Our developments were copied and that wasn’t right,” Sonos CEO Patrick Spence told Handelsblatt.

The supplier from Santa Barbara, which specializes in wirelessly networked loudspeakers, prevailed in patent proceedings at the US Trade Commission ITC at the beginning of the year. The lawsuit found that Google infringed a total of five Sonos patents. The search engine operator was then forced to adapt the functions of the Google speakers.

Google announced an appeal and filed its own patent lawsuits against Sonos in August. For comparison, Sonos is worth $1.8 billion on the stock exchange, while Google is worth $1.3 trillion.
