So the ranking has changed

The 101 best hotels in Germany

The Handelsblatt is once again a partner of the ranking.

Dusseldorf Standing still means going backwards – in this sense, a lot has happened in the ranking of “The 101 Best Hotels in Germany” between the premiere last November and the current second edition. A board of trustees has been set up, there are additional prizes in six categories, as well as awards for sustainability and digital.

What has remained is the methodology, which stands for the most objective possible determination of the sequence. “We use measurable criteria that are relevant and meaningful for the hotel industry, combining different perspectives through the three dimensions,” says Annegret Wittmann-Wurzer, professor at the ranking partner IU Internationale Hochschule, who collects and evaluates the data.

Three dimensions: The first basis is the evaluation of the reviews of large platforms such as Booking.com and Tripadvisor. The IU specialists take care of this statistical part. Afterwards, further criteria of the partners are created for fine-tuning: quality of the hardware, fulfillment of the promise of experience, gastronomic aspects. The best hotels are also tested according to defined criteria. The overall rating is made up of this combined guest and expert assessment.

Carsten K. Rath (Passion for Excellence AG), who provided the ideas for 101 and Handelsblatt author, took away from many conversations that the ranking should be further specified. The 101 hotels are now also ranked in six different categories such as best city hotels, best grand hotels or hideaways. In addition, this year there is the climber and newcomer of the year as well as the sustainability award and the digital award of the German hotel industry for the most digital house for the first time.

Bitkom President Achim Berg will present the digital award to the Grand Elysée Hamburg on Sunday at the 101 best award ceremony in Öschberghof (Donaueschingen / Livestream). Before the award ceremony, industry giants will be discussing (livestream) the trending topic “Medical Health – a perspective for the hotel industry?”

More on the subject:

The cooperation of the 101 best hotels in Germany with the Hornstein ranking also offers added value. Since 1981 it has recorded the top gastronomy in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol, among others. In future, it will also be used to present the best culinary addresses. The Hornstein list will thus also be an important part of the evaluation criteria for the “101 best”. In return, the Hornstein ranking takes over the list of the 101 best hotels.

Another new format is the “101 Best Future Hospitality Days” on two days next March in Hamburg. “The younger generation, i.e. the next generation of management, is far less networked with the older generation than was usual in my time,” says Carsten K. Rath. Young hoteliers should discuss future topics of health, digitization and sustainability with decision-makers in the industry. At the end there is another award ceremony: The award goes to “The 101 Best – Next Gen – Hotelier of the Year”. “We are looking for the future César Ritz, Horst Schulze, Isadore Sharp or Reto Wittwer,” says Rath.

With the ranking, the book on the list also goes into the second round. It has been expanded significantly and this time presents everything you need to know about the 101 ranking on more than 500 pages with hotel portraits, interviews and backgrounds.
