Even if the new group leadership stands with it, there are many long faces. So the ex-ministers were all punished. In addition to Braun, Spahn also received poor results with 74 percent and Klöckner with 68.5 percent.
This shows that many in the parliamentary group would have wished for a real fresh start with new faces, and not the previous ministers at the top, who, in their opinion, were responsible for the election defeat.
The losers of the fight vote like the former Eastern Commissioner Christian Hirte, who drew the short straw against Müller, also remain disappointed. And the workers’ wing of the CDU (CDA) is angry too. “We consider the positioning of the CDU / CSU leadership in the Bundestag to appoint the chairpersons of the working groups and the prioritization of the committees to be a serious mistake. This lacks any sense of the fine balance of a people’s party, ”said the workers’ wing.
With the chairmanship of the working group Labor and Social Affairs, an important CDA position was given to the CSU without need and the committee chairmen deliberately did not address any issues that aim at the internal cohesion of society.
“The top of the CDU parliamentary group is making it clear that social policy is not a priority for them. These are clearly decisions against the future party leadership. And we as CDA cannot accept them, ”the CDA says.
The workers’ wing expects the new party chairman to “correct” this misalignment in terms of content at the latest when the parliamentary group is elected. How long the reorganization of the parliamentary group will last is therefore unclear. What is clear, however, is that the Union will not settle down anytime soon.
