Our flag carrier Turkish Airlines, which is currently the airline company that flies to the most destinations in the world, turned everyone’s attention to Istanbul with its move before the Dubai Airshow, one of the most prestigious airshows.
The company, which has a policy of increasing the number of aircraft in its fleet, came to the fore with the news of a huge order for 600 aircraft in the summer months. However, due to various reasons, the expected huge order had not been placed yet.
Meeting with officials from the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, one of the main companies that dominate the aircraft production industry, THY executives took a big step for the first part of the expected giant order. According to the agreement, the parties reached an agreement to order a total of 355 aircraft of various types, including the 10 aircraft previously ordered by the company. So much so that with this agreement, the largest aircraft order in THY’s history was placed.

The aircraft types and numbers in the date order package, which includes a total of 355 aircraft, given by THY in addition to its existing fleet of 435 aircraft and whose official announcement is expected to be made at the Dubai Airshow, are as follows:
- 250 A321 NEOs
- 75 A350-900s
- 15 A350-1000s
- 5 A350F cargo planes
- 10 A350-900 (Pre-ordered)
One of the striking parts of the order, which includes both long- and short-range type aircraft, is the order for 15 A350-1000 aircraft, which are not currently in the fleet. The A350-1000 stands out with its high passenger capacity, comfort, long range and efficiency features due to its wide body.
In parallel with this record order, it is possible to have an idea about the future policies of our flag carrier. When the aircraft on order are added to the fleet, it can be predicted by looking at this order that there are different types of aircraft with both long range and short range, and that the company will have a stronger hold on its ability to fly to the most points in the world, which is one of its greatest qualities.
In addition, carrying out more operations with more aircraft indicates that the number of employment in various units of the company will gradually increase. Another point of great importance in this context is the infrastructure that will ensure complete maintenance of the aircraft in the fleet so that they are constantly airworthy, which indicates great strides in terms of both employment and company competence at Turkish Technic, THY’s subsidiary company that carries out aircraft maintenance.
