Shocking statement from former Meta employee: Doesn’t Instagram care about young people?

Instagram, one of the first platforms that comes to mind when it comes to social media, has a user base from almost every age group. Social media bullying, which has become one of today’s problems, was stated to be one of the priority issues of the platform. But it seems the facts are different.

Former Meta employee: “I told him about my daughter being harassed on Instagram, but Meta CEO did not pay attention.”

Young people being bullied on social media is among the most important issues of recent times. Since then, Facebook and Instagram umbrella company Meta has taken many measures on the platform. Arturo Béjar, who has taken many steps for the company in this field and is known for his anti-bullying expertise on social media, shared his interesting experience.

A memory between Béjar, who worked as an engineering director at Facebook between 2009 and 2015, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg came to light. Accordingly, Béjar told Meta CEO about the harassment bullying her own daughter experienced on Instagram. However, he said that his concerns and warnings were not taken into account. Here are the statements of the former Meta employee:

She and her friends began having terrible experiences, including repeated unwanted sexual advances and harassment. She reported these events to the company and the company did nothing. This means the person will go to other profiles and continue to spread misogyny. I don’t think reporting or doing more content review is the solution.

It has been announced that the social media platform Instagram will come with an option to turn off read receipts for private messages.

This speech was given at the congress about the harm that Facebook and Instagram do to children. The former Meta employee said that Zuckerberg and his team allegedly took some measures, but this was not a deterrent. Additionally, he stated that the team was aware of the harms Instagram caused, but chose not to make changes that would prevent them.
