Google Chrome, the world’s most used browser, has been experiencing some problems with its incognito tab policy in recent years. A lawsuit filed by users who claimed that Google Chrome software illegally violated the privacy of millions of people was concluded today.
Google’s lawsuit to pay $5 billion has been suspended
In 2020, many users filed a class-action lawsuit claiming that data was being recorded and tracked by Google even though they were using incognito mode in the Chrome web browser. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers started the trial process.
According to a report in Reuters today, the hearing scheduled for February 5, 2024 has been suspended. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland explained the suspension because Google and consumer advocates had reached a preliminary agreement.
Last August, the judge denied Google’s motion for summary judgment, stating that the company continued to collect data even when browsing in incognito mode and never disclosed it to its users. Terms of the settlement have not yet been disclosed.
On the other hand, the lawyers state that they agreed on a preliminary protocol through mediation. Google had previously said that incognito mode was not followed and that they opposed this decision. By the way, let us state again that the Google case is worth 5 billion dollars.
