Shark Meat Discovered in Cat and Dog Foods

Cat and dog food has turned into a huge industry. As a result, sometimes we come across blood-chilling things. A study by scientists is one of the best examples of this. According to research, some sharks in danger of extinction their meat is put in cat and dog food.

Pet owners unknowingly help shark extinction

Researchers at the National University of Singapore examined the ingredients of 45 pet foods from 16 different brands.. Most of the products contained inaccurate expressions such as “white fish and white feed”. While some food brands include fish names such as “tuna fish” or “salmon”, it was seen that none of the brands used the shark name in the ingredients.

A third of the mamas were sharks

The scientists sequenced 144 samples using the DNA barcode. According to this research, sharks in one third of these samples DNA found. Sharks killed for cat and dog food include the blue shark, caribbean reef shark, whitefin shark, sickle-finned shark, caribbean pointed shark, and tiger sand shark. In particular, the Caribbean reef shark and whitefin shark are among the species listed as “vulnerable” on the red list.

Sharks were not listed as “included” in any of the cat and dog foods. This is not an illegal procedure, but I think many pet owners will want to know about it.

Sharks are endangered
