Dusseldorf Sebastian Kurz allegedly wants to resign from all political offices. Several media reports unanimously. At 11.30 a.m. Austria’s ex-Chancellor wants to announce the move during a press conference. According to dpa information from circles of the conservative ÖVP, Kurz wants to withdraw from politics with immediate effect.

The commercial and corruption prosecutor’s office is investigating the 35-year-old on suspicion of false testimony in the Ibiza investigative committee and on suspicion of breach of trust. Kurz and his political colleagues are said to have promoted his rise to the top of the government with the help of taxpayers’ money, among other things.

Kurz resigned as Federal Chancellor in October because of the corruption allegations. His successor is Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP). Briefly, however, remained party leader and took over the chairmanship of the ÖVP parliamentary group.

The birth of his son ultimately made the difference, reports the daily newspaper “Krone”, referring to statements made by Kurz to the newspaper. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer should be the new ÖVP boss.
