On Twitter, “school holidays” was shared from a fake account on behalf of the Governor of Şanlıurfa. The fake account had a blue tick badge, thanks to a Twitter Blue subscription.
First introduced on Twitter in November 2022 and featuring a blue tick Twitter Bluecreated a great controversy about deceptive content on the platform. The blue tick, which indicates that the accounts are reliable and approved until today, can now be used by every account that gives money.
Today, we have seen one of the first examples of abuse of this situation in Turkey. Some users who opened a Twitter account on behalf of Şanlıurfa Governor Salih Ayhan and got blue ticks, Sharing that schools are on holiday in Şanlıurfa made. The said post was denied by the Governor:
