Berlin, Brussels Despite the recent moves at the diplomatic level, military experts and diplomats do not expect the fighting in Ukraine to end any time soon. In the past few days, representatives of Russia and Ukraine have reached rapprochement, but have not achieved a breakthrough.

According to Deputy Energy Minister Yaroslav Demchenkov, the Ukrainian leadership does not expect a quick end to the war and speedy peace negotiations, as he told the Handelsblatt. On Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy again called for Russia to cease hostilities and withdraw Russian troops as a basis for talks.

In the past few hours, Russian forces have again attacked several cities, killing civilians, according to Ukrainian sources. According to Stefan Meister, an expert at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGRP), the fighting will continue, at least for a limited time.
