Saxony: first Christmas markets canceled | Regional

Chemnitz / Dresden – Saxony’s traditional Christmas markets – visitors and traders are once again worried about the centuries-old traditions!

As BILD learned, many municipalities in the state fear the unpredictability of the Free State – especially the subsequent Corona Protection Ordinance on November 26th. If 2G comes to markets for the Advent season, this would be the end for many retailers.

The first markets such as the Pulsnitzer gingerbread market or those in the cities of Meerane and Lichtenstein (light festival) have already been canceled. Too high a risk, on the one hand, because it is unclear what will come with the new regulation and, on the other hand, because there is a lack of staff for the controls.

Even the famous Chemnitz Christmas market is shaking! “It is not yet clear whether it can take place. There are currently voting discussions going on, we will only comment on this in the course of the week, ”said city spokesman Matthias Nowak (51) on Tuesday when asked by BILD.

And in Dresden? The booth town of the 587th Striezelmarkt around the Christmas tree on the Altmarkt is already there. However, with a yellow fence all around. Which restrictions, controls and requirements there will be, should first be coordinated with Leipzig and Chemnitz.

After all, most cities in Saxony are still optimistic about the specifications of the Free State when asked by BILD.

But there is great uncertainty. In Hainichen or Burgstädt, for example, they don’t want to commit themselves yet, in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, if necessary, they want to cancel everything at short notice.
