Berlin The Russian oil company Rosneft has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Republic of Germany. The reason for this is the trusteeship of the German branch, which includes holdings in three refineries. The lawsuit was filed with the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig on Thursday, according to the law firm Malmendier Legal commissioned by Rosneft. From Rosneft’s point of view, the federal government’s action has no legal basis, since the company – unlike Gazprom – continues to supply the German locations.

“To date, Rosneft has fully met its crude oil delivery obligations, there have been no interruptions in delivery and no disruptions in performance,” the firm said. Despite the “conflict in Ukraine”, Rosneft carried out its engagement in Germany without political influence.

In mid-September, the federal government decided to place Rosneft’s German subsidiaries under state control. Berlin justified the step with the planned oil embargo, which should come into force at the turn of the year. The refinery in Schwedt, Brandenburg, in particular, is threatened with a supply bottleneck.
