Rumors: “Tesla Tests Dogecoin (DOGE) Payments!”

Electric car maker Tesla announced last December that it would begin accepting payments in Dogecoin (DOGE).

While Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced this news with a post on his Twitter account, he did not explain for which products Tesla would accept Dogecoin payments.

Citing an interview with The Block, a software engineer named Tree of Alpha on Twitter said that Tesla added the Dogecoin payment option three days ago to test it.

The engineer named Tree of Alpha stated that he has analyzed Tesla’s source code and is confident that the company is testing DOGE as a payment option.

“Most of the codes are already present in the latest Javascript files that Tesla uses to process payments, but the Dogecoin-related part appears blank regardless. That’s why it’s never shown. (basically a way to test code in production)”

According to the engineer, the option to pay with Dogecoin is currently a “hidden feature” that most people do not see.

A picture of how the DOGE option looked during the test runs was also shared:

The engineer also noted that Tesla has brought the “crypto_continue.html” page back online to process crypto payments.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is a fan of Dogecoin, also announced in March 2021 that he supports Bitcoin for payments.

However, in May, it announced that it had stopped accepting Bitcoin for vehicle payments due to environmental concerns.
