Berlin Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) wants to help industrial sectors such as chemicals, steel, metal, glass or batteries with a “bridging electricity price”. The Ministry of Economics presented a corresponding concept on Friday.

Specifically, Habeck plans to make the transformation easier for energy-intensive industries. With the expansion of renewable energies, the prices for green electricity are likely to fall increasingly over the next few years.

But first the German economy has to deal with electricity prices, which are high by international standards. In order to enable the companies affected to make the transformation, Habeck is now proposing to introduce an industrial electricity price of six cents per kilowatt hour. The subsidized electricity price is to apply until 2030.

“Our proposal is the answer to a clear desire from across the board – non-partisan, from the federal and state governments, from associations and trade unions,” said Habeck on Friday.
