Rewe, Tegut, Globus: Supermarkets are expanding with delivery services

Dusseldorf Ironically, the comparatively small supermarket chain Tegut is one of the most innovative retailers in Germany. Tegut not only has automated branches without staff and sells goods via Amazon Fresh. In some cities, the retailer, which operates around 300 shops in Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia, now delivers its goods to your home in less than an hour.

This cooperation started with Lieferando in Darmstadt, Frankfurt was added in October. Rapid delivery will soon be extended to Wiesbaden. In Frankfurt, Tegut also cooperates with the delivery service Wolt.

Tegut is thus an example of a surprising turnaround in food delivery services: while the expansion of many ambitious start-ups in areas such as Gorillas or Knuspr is stalling, and some are even withdrawing from some cities, traditional retailers are now investing more. They either participate in start-ups or even operate their own delivery services.
