Nokia: “Leaving Russia will not cause economic destruction”

Big technology companies continue to impose heavy sanctions on Russia. While many companies stopped their activities only for a certain period of time, some companies turned to more severe applications. Nokia had also previously stopped deliveries to the country. The company, which increased the sanctions in response to the ongoing Russian attacks, decided to withdraw from Russia completely.

Undoubtedly, economic comfort also takes place under Nokia’s hard decision. So much so that, according to research, the Russian market accounts for only 2% of the company’s revenues. As such, it becomes easier to take firm decisions regarding Russia. After the delivery withdrawal, Nokia does not want to keep any warehouses in Russia until the next decision. Regarding the decision, the company used the following statements:

It was clear to Nokia from the first days of the occupation of Ukraine that it would not be possible to maintain our presence in Russia. In recent weeks we have suspended deliveries, stopped new business and are moving our limited R&D activities outside of Russia. We can now declare that we will exit the Russian market. In this process, our priority continues to be the safety and health of our employees.

Nokia withdrew completely from Russia with the decision announced within the scope of its 2022 income plan. On the other hand, Russia has very limited opportunities in terms of technology. The imposed sanctions do not seem to have dissuaded Russia from its decision yet. However, how long Russia can withstand this is already a matter of curiosity.
