Residential houses do poorly here

In order to achieve the climate targets, existing buildings must also become more environmentally friendly

Frankfurt It is now clear how important the real estate industry’s contribution to the fight against climate change is: The sector is responsible for around a third of all CO2 emissions in Germany.

Accordingly, the real estate industry is considered to be one of the main causes of climate change – and therefore, according to the will of the federal government, it should become climate-neutral by 2045. A current study, which the Handelsblatt has received in advance, shows, however, that the individual federal states are equipped very differently for this.

An evaluation of the energy certificates of the online real estate portal McMakler, which takes the German residential buildings marketed via the website from the third quarter of 2021 as the basis, comes to the result: Only 13 percent of the properties were classified in the best energy value groups A, A + or B.

Where exactly are the houses that are doing particularly badly? In which regions is the pent-up demand particularly great? These are the most important facts.
