Rents in big cities are increasing twice as fast as in previous years

Dusseldorf Rent growth in the 14 largest cities has doubled over the past year compared to previous years. As data from the real estate portal Immowelt from Wednesday shows, in the years 2018 to 2021 the annual growth in rents without taxes for existing apartments across all 14 major cities was constant at two percent. From the fourth quarter of 2021 to the fourth quarter of 2022, on the other hand, the increase was four percent.

The capital recorded the largest increase. Within a year, asking rents in Berlin have risen by seven percent to EUR 10.17 per square metre. In North Rhine-Westphalia, too, rents increased comparatively significantly. In Cologne, the increase was five percent to EUR 11.46 per square meter, in Düsseldorf even six percent to EUR 11.54 per square meter.
