We recently reported that the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) established a cooperation platform for the R&D project of the digital Turkish lira with the participation of ASELSAN, HAVELSAN and TÜBİTAK-BİLGEM. The development in question was the first concrete step towards Turkey’s creation of a digital currency. The development also found its place in the headlines of crypto money.
Recently, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made remarkable statements about cryptocurrencies in Mersin. Meeting with students who won universities from 81 provinces, Erdogan said that they do not have a problem of opening up to crypto money, on the contrary, they have a separate war and struggle against them.
“We have absolutely no problem with opening up to this cryptocurrency. On the contrary, we have a separate war, a separate struggle against them. We will never give them such a premium, nor will we. Because at the moment, we will continue on our way with our own money, which is our main identity in this matter.”
After the President, Binali Yıldırım, Deputy Chairman of the AK Party, shared his thoughts on the subject:
“Cryptocurrency, unfortunately, also opens the door to grievances. Therefore, serious control is needed. A sale is made for a kind of imaginary future. After that, we saw bad examples of this, we saw the victims. In the future, of course, at your discretion, it may be necessary to make some arrangements as a state, as a government, in order to prevent these abuses and mistakes. Studies on it have already started.”
