Dusseldorf The entrepreneur Ralph Dommermuth has specified the plans for his new, fourth mobile network for Germany. “Our network will be the most modern in Europe,” Dommermuth told Handelsblatt. The billionaire wants to cover the high expansion costs almost entirely from the credit and liquid assets of his company 1&1. Loans would only be necessary in isolated cases, according to Dommermuth. In return, the 1&1 shareholders would have to do without a real dividend for the foreseeable future.

In terms of speed and technical equipment, the new network should surpass the established providers. According to Dommermuth, these are currently mainly based on “normal antennas that have only been “tuned” to the fast 5G mobile communications standard via software update”. On the other hand, he envisages a network without technical legacies that will enable the operation of real-time applications such as the control of autonomous cars. To do this, Dommermuth wants to connect its antennas to a system of 500 regional data centers where companies can rent server space for digital services.
