Putin’s ‘special operation’ becomes ‘holy war’

Moscow Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov recently described the war in Ukraine as a fight against “Satanism”. The goal is the “desatanization” of the country, said the head of state of the Russian republic on Tuesday in a contribution to the news service Telegram.

“I give you my word, we will attack them every day and we will destroy them every day,” said Kadyrov, also known as “Putin’s bloodhound” because of his brutality. “We will not capture these demons, we will burn them.” He described the war against Ukraine as “jihad”.

Confused drivel, yes, which can certainly be explained with a view to the Russian religious landscape. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Christian Orthodox Church has been the vast majority religion in Russia. An estimated 70 percent feel they belong.
