Published in the Official Gazette! Entertainment taxes lifted

The decision on entertainment taxes published in the Official Gazette tonight made millions of people happy. According to the statement, effective from January 1, 2023, the tax levied on the entertainment industry such as cinema, concerts and sports competitions will be 0 percent.

Entertainment taxes are officially reset!

According to the decision signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette last night, the entertainment tax rate from movie screenings, sports competitions, horse races and concerts will be 0 percent next year. So there will be no entertainment tax.

In the first part of the decision shared after the change, the following is said:

“It has been decided to put into effect the attached Decision regarding the entertainment tax rates in Article 21 of the Law on Municipal Revenues No. 2464, pursuant to paragraph (C) of Article 96 of the aforementioned Law.”

SUPPLEMENT TO THE PRESIDENT’S DECISION NO 6584 DATED 20/12/2022

  • ARTICLE 1
    • (1) Subparagraph (I) of Article 21 of the Law on Municipal Revenues No. 2464;
      • a) Entertainment tax rate collected from domestic movie screenings in sub-paragraph (1),
      • b) The entertainment tax rate taken from foreign film screenings in sub-paragraph (2),
      • c) The entertainment tax rate taken from sports competitions, horse races and concerts in sub-paragraph (4) has been determined as 0%.
  • MATTER 2-
    • (1) The Decision of the Council of Ministers dated 9/12/1997 and numbered 97/10349 regarding the entertainment tax rates in Article 21 of the Law on Municipal Revenues No. 2464 has been repealed.
  • ARTICLE 3
    • (1) This Decision enters into force on 1/1/2023.
  • ARTICLE 4-
    • (1) The provisions of this Decision are executed by the Minister of Treasury and Finance.
