Frankfurt The development of inflation poses a puzzle for economists and central banks alike: is it already subsiding – or is the worst rise still to come? In April, inflation in the euro zone was seven percent. The inflation rate was 6.9 percent in March and 8.5 percent in February.

In order to be able to make a forecast, economists also look into the past. The only question is: which phase of hyperinflation is suitable for comparison?

The recommendations to the central banks also depend on the answer: should they continue to raise interest rates? Or is the low-interest policy about to return soon?
