Brussels Producer prices in the euro zone are climbing ever faster and are signaling rising inflationary pressure in the currency area. The producer prices of industrial products rose by a record 16.0 percent in September compared to the same month last year, as the Eurostat statistics office announced on Thursday.

Economists polled by Reuters had only expected 15.2 percent after a strong increase of 13.4 percent in August. Double-digit percentage increases have been measured since the middle of the year.

The energy costs are a major driver: They increased by a whopping 40.7 percent in September – in August it was 31.9 percent. Pre-products cost 15.2 percent more in September than a year earlier. There are global bottlenecks in these products – for example with steel or wood.
