Today, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the first welding ceremonies of the Hızır Reis submarine and Selman Reis were held at the Gölcük Shipyard Command. Speaking here, Erdogan said that 6 domestic submarines will be included in the Naval Forces inventory in the coming years.
6 submarines are coming in 5 years!
Within the framework of the agreement signed between the Presidency of Defense Industries and the German ThyssenKrupp Naval Systems company on 22 June 2011, the construction activities of 6 U-214 Class submarines were started at Gölcük Shipyard Command.

TCG Piri Reis (S-330) was the first submarine to be withdrawn in 2015. It was completed and launched earlier this year. Piri Reis, which started testing activities with hardware afterwards, was aimed to be included in the inventory in the first quarter according to the plans made before the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, let us state that it can be delivered to the Navy at any time.
Among the other domestic submarine models that continue to be built in this direction are TCG Hızır Reis (S-331, 2023), which was pulled into the pool for the first time today, and Selman Reis (S-335, 2027), whose welding ceremony was held. Others are TCG Murat Reis (S-332, 2024), TCG Aydın Reis (S-333, 2025) and TGC Seydiali Reis (S-334, 2026).
Assuming that the pandemic closures will not be repeated, we can say that these models can be raised to the planned dates in the next 5 years. In addition, it should be noted that AKYA, Turkey’s first domestic and heavy class torpedo, developed since 2009 under the main contractor of ROKETSAN, has also been integrated into these submarines. Its main purpose of use will be the destruction of underwater and surface targets.
