US’s popular trading platform application Roobinhood has been hacked. The information of about 7 million users was seized by hackers.
Robinhood recently confirmed that their system suffered a data security breach on November 3, 2021.
In a published blog post, it was stated that the attackers gained access to the customer support system with the social engineering technique. Although the security of the platform was brought back under control, the information of millions of users was captured during the breach.
Robinhood chief security officer Caleb Sime said:
“As a security company, we owe it to our customers to be transparent and act honestly. After careful review, it is the right thing we can do now to make the entire Robinhood community aware of this incident.”
The platform is very popular in the US as it offers commission-free stock and cryptocurrency trading.
It was stated that 7 million customers were affected by the attack.
The attackers were able to access the email addresses of 5 million users and the full names of 2 million users. More than 310 customers’ email addresses were reportedly compromised. Detailed account information of 10 customers was obtained.
In a statement made by Robinhood, it was stated that the attackers could not access bank account information and credit card information. In addition, it was emphasized that users did not experience any financial loss due to the event.
