Police Raid Bitcoin Platform NEXO!

In this context, the crypto money loan platform NEXOwas raided on allegations of money laundering, violation of sanctions against Russia, tax crimes and fraud.

According to the news of Bulgaria’s local news agency Novinite, an operation was carried out in the Bulgarian offices of Nexo with the participation of officials consisting of prosecutors, counterintelligence officers and investigators.

The Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement; He stated that an investigation was launched to neutralize Nexo’s criminal activities and that more than 300 people participated in the operation.

“Evidence has been gathered that a person using the platform and transferring cryptocurrencies has been officially declared a terrorist funder.”

An official spokesperson said the investigation began a few months ago after foreign services identified suspicious transactions that were reportedly aimed at circumventing sanctions imposed by the European Union, Britain and the United States on Russian banks.

It was also stated that the platform and the company behind it are inviting investors to invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies with promises of high returns.

Speaking about the raid on NEXO offices, a NEXO spokesperson told Coindesk:

“As you know, there are officials in Nexo offices in Bulgaria, the most corrupt country in the EU.

These officials are conducting AML and tax investigations on a Bulgarian organization that is not face to face with NEXO’s customers but only has back office functions (such as payroll, customer support, compliance).

However, as NEXO, we are one of the strictest organizations on KYC and AML.”
