Pokemon Go Steps into the Metaverse

Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, one of the biggest successful games in the mobile gaming world, said in a statement that it plans to build a metaverse, one of the most popular technologies of recent times, with the funds it has recently collected.

Niantic company, which last received investment in 2019, recently received an investment of $ 300 million from the technology-focused investment company Coatue, and the valuation of the company increased to $ 9 billion.

Coatue general partner Matt Mazzeo said of their investment in Niantic’s metaverse project:

“Niantic is building an AR platform based on a 3D world map that we believe will play a critical role in the next transition to computing.

We are excited to partner with Niantic as we see this infrastructure supporting a meta-data for the real world and helping to power the next evolution of the internet.”

John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic, continued by stating that unlike Facebook, which is focused on virtual reality development, Niantic company wants to develop technologies that bring people closer to the outside world:

“At Niantic, we believe that people are happy when virtual worlds lead people to a physical world. Unlike a sci-fi metadatabase, a real-world metadatabase will use technology to enhance our experience of the world as we know it for thousands of years.”

Among the games developed by Niantic company, besides Pokemon Go, there are also important games such as Harry Potter: Wizarda Unite and Pikmin Bloom.
