Berlin Peter Altmaier is known for his consistency, especially when it comes to choosing his tie. Whether at events, in the Bundestag or on talk shows: the pink tie on a white shirt, framed by the black jacket, has almost always been reliable for years.
And so the color of Altmaier’s tie alone showed that his appearance on Monday was not an ordinary one. Because: it was his last. The 63-year-old will hand over the department to the Greens boss Robert Habeck on Wednesday. He has also resigned his mandate in the Bundestag. After 27 years in politics in Berlin, the Saarlander is putting an end to it.
