A regulation affecting millions of people who have pets in their homes was published in the Official Gazette in the past months. Accordingly, it was decided to attach a subcutaneous implant, known as an RFID chip, to cats, dogs and ferrets, which fall under the category of pets. First, in the decision taken last year, it was announced that pet owners should have RFID chips installed by the end of 2021 for adult dogs and by the end of 2022 for cats and ferrets. It was stated that it was not necessary for puppies until they were 3 months old. But this rule did not come into effect.
Then, with the decision that entered the regulation on April 22, 2022, it was announced that pet owners have until December 31, 2022, to have their cats, dogs and ferrets fitted with RIFD chips. If the transaction is not done within this period, an administrative fine of 1634 TL will be applied.

Animal adoption application was launched on e-Government today. So how to reach this page and adopt a pet?
This process could actually be done by the animal owners before the decision was taken. The fee required for the procedure in veterinarians is 225 TL. However, after the decision taken, it was announced that state support would be provided and it could be made for 75 TL.
The procedure is actually pretty simple. The RIFD chip, which is specially supplied for the pet, is placed under the skin with a syringe-like injector, just like the vaccine is made. Since its size is smaller than a grain of rice, it does not cause any discomfort to the animal. He won’t even feel its presence.
Of course, it should be noted that these chips do not work like the GPS tracking devices we are used to today. Because it uses RIFD technology, a reader-scanner device will be needed. However, in the event of a possible theft or loss, when it is found by the municipal teams, both the owner and the health data will be accessible thanks to this chip on it.
