The two companies, which will provide integration for their customers’ digital lives, will introduce software-based products and services with regular over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Emphasizing that Amazon has built a culture of technology, experience and innovation to become a world leader in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning in the last 20 years, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said:

“We’ve used these capabilities to make life better for our customers around the world through products and services like Alexa, Kindle, and Fire TV. We’ve helped thousands of companies transform themselves and their industries with AWS.

We are excited to partner with Stellantis to transform the automotive industry and reinvent the in-car experience. We strive to make every moment on the move smart, safe and customizable for each passenger. Together, we will lay the foundation for Stellantis’ transformation from a traditional automaker to a global leader in software-driven development and engineering.”

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the following about this partnership:

“Working with Amazon is an integral part of our talent development roadmap, which is based both on building existing competencies and on committed collaborations with technology leaders. This collaboration will bring significant expertise to STLA SmartCockpit, one of our key technology platforms.

By leveraging artificial intelligence and cloud solutions, we will transform our vehicles into personalized living spaces and improve the overall customer experience. Thus, our vehicles will become the most fascinating places where we spend the most time, even when we are not driving.”

What will Amazon and Stellantis partnership bring?

STLA SmartCockpit

The first outstanding product of Amazon and Stellantis collaboration will be the STLA SmartCocpit. The software of STLA SmartCockpit, which will be available in millions of Stellantis vehicles worldwide by 2024, will be revealed with this collaboration. Software-oriented platform; It will integrate seamlessly into customers’ digital lives to create personalized and intuitive in-car experiences through AI-enhanced apps for entertainment, Alexa-powered voice assistance, navigation, vehicle maintenance, e-commerce and payment services.

The STLA SmartCockpit platform will use Amazon products and solutions built specifically for vehicles. Stellantis will have the flexibility to create customer, brand and vehicle specific capabilities. The software will offer services and experiences through the app store. All of this will be displayed with intelligent, adaptive user interface design that features to suit each user’s individual needs and preferences.

  • Personalized smart assistant

The STLA SmartCockpit will adapt to the behaviors and interests of customers, wherever their passions take them, at home, on the road or after they set off. One vehicle may offer a family trip planner that recommends media content, attractions, restaurants and other entertainment stops along the route, while another may include a digital terrain assistant to help customers calibrate their vehicle and optimize performance before tackling rough terrain.

  • The house can be controlled from within the vehicle

Integration with Amazon’s leading smart home and security services will allow customers to proactively monitor and manage their homes on the go. Stellantis customers will also be able to manage their vehicles from the Alexa smartphone app with their Alexa-enabled devices in their home, including using special Alexa skills to set the cabin temperature, create a service appointment or order accessories before getting in their vehicle.

The STLA SmartCockpit development process will also leverage the Mobile Drive joint venture, which Stellantis and Foxconn established in 2021 to develop breakthrough digital cockpits and personalized connected services.

Engineering and innovation

The second area of focus of the partnership will be next-generation cloud-enabled infrastructure. Stellantis and Amazon plan to co-create the next-generation cloud-enabled infrastructure for vehicle platforms such as the STLA SmartCockpit, thanks to AWS.

Stellantis plans to move current brands and existing cross-geographic vehicle data pipeline to cloud-based data network by leveraging advanced capabilities of AWS that provide scalable and durable real-time data flow. By switching to the AWS powered data network, Stellantis engineers will be able to use the most appropriate tools and interface for each project.

Stellantis also aims to accelerate the time-to-market of new digital products that leverage AWS machine learning to enable even greater customization and predictive maintenance.

Both companies are designing a cloud-based product development environment called the “Virtual Engineering Workbench,” which provides automated workflows for software development and testing, high-performance simulations, machine learning model training, data collection and management analysis.

Agile-Automated Software and Data Academy

Stellantis recently announced the launch of the Software Academy to enhance the skills of all employees. In this context, Stellantis and AWS plan to launch a new global learning curriculum called Agile-Automated Software and Data Academy that will cover software, data and cloud technology. Stellantis will also train more than 5,000 developers and engineers on AWS-related cloud technologies by 2024 to accelerate its transformation into a data-driven enterprise on the cloud.

To accelerate development, Stellantis and AWS will establish a global network of AWS-powered Innovation Centers, where experts from both companies will innovate using the breadth and depth of AWS cloud services.

Growth of the delivery network

Since 2018, Stellantis has supported Amazon’s Last Mile operations in North America and Europe with light commercial vehicles such as Ram ProMaster, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot and Citroën, with tens of thousands of light commercial vehicles.

Amazon is also transforming its recent delivery operations with new sustainable solutions to support its Climate Commitment and its promise to be net zero carbon by 2040. Under another agreement with Stellantis, Amazon will be the first commercial customer of Stellantis’ new Ram ProMaster Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), due to launch in 2023.

With Amazon’s feedback, Stellantis designed the vehicle with advanced final delivery features. Amazon will put these vehicles into service on routes across the US. As part of the current collaboration and long-term agreement, Stellantis and Amazon will launch thousands of BEV ProMasters each year.

Build on a strong foundation

This collaboration expands the scope of the existing agreement between Stellantis and Amazon. Stellantis was the first automaker to integrate the Amazon Fire TV experience with the launch of the new 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

Stellantis is also the first automotive OEM to announce that it plans to implement the Alexa Custom Assistant solution, which makes it possible to create personalized, intelligent AI and voice-driven experiences based on Alexa technology.

Stellantis offers the Alexa Integrated audio experience in its vehicles around the world today, making it easy to navigate, play music, listen to podcasts and audiobooks, make calls, manage calendars, listen to the news, check the weather, control smart home devices and more.
