Bielefeld, Dusseldorf On a Saturday in mid-February, an honorary judge at the district court in Münster vented his anger. In an email to the presiding judge in the Onecoin trial, he wrote that he had applied for jury duty to broaden his horizons. “If I had known what I was getting myself into, I would certainly not have made this decision.” The course of the process and its special circumstances are “extremely unsatisfactory for all sides”.
Three months later, the main trial against the alleged German helpers of the fugitive Onecoin inventor Ruja Ignatova has now burst, as the Münster Regional Court announced on Monday. The process is scheduled to begin again in mid-August this year. “The evidence that has been taken so far must be repeated,” the court said.
The reason for the early end of the main hearing: Several honorary judges are unable to follow the complicated white collar crime involving cryptocurrency and blockchain technology for health reasons.
