Not having to work after 30 – Frugalist explains the strategy

Dusseldorf Manuel Stricheder is a financial blogger, frugalist and says of himself that he achieved financial independence in 2020. He wasn’t even 30 years old then. In the meantime, he and his girlfriend have quit their jobs as employees and are traveling through Southeast Asia.

Without a passive income none of this would work. “Of course it fluctuates every month, I don’t always get the same amount of dividends, distributions or option premiums,” says Streifeneder in the new episode of Handelsblatt Today. “I’m around 2000 to 4000 euros net on average, which is currently coming in.”

At the same time, he keeps his expenses very low: “I spend 1,650 to 1,700 euros a month, including travel,” says Streifeneder. For possible special expenses, he forms reserves in good time, which are in separate accounts.

Would he say that he lives ascetically? “I don’t think so, actually. When I compare my life with others, I see relatively few differences,” says the blogger, who calls himself “financial nomad”.

The biggest difference: “I have an old car, I live with my girlfriend in a two-room apartment, and we’re also relatively economical when it comes to short vacations and eating out,” says Streifeneder.

In the podcast, he explains the investment strategy he used to build up assets of almost EUR 350,000 – and how he intends to achieve his goal of two million euros.

In addition, Handelsblatt editor Agatha Kremplewski talks to her colleague Roman Winkelhahn about why the El Niño climate phenomenon not only affects the weather, but also the economy.
