new York The New Yorkers seem exhausted and tired as they sit tightly packed in the subway because many trains have long stopped running at the usual rhythm. With up to 40,000 new infections every day with the omicron variant of the corona virus in the eight million metropolis alone, this forced proximity is a handicap.

Sick leave rates are high among state MTA subway workers, as well as firefighters and police officers. It is said that Omicron has now caught every fourth New Yorker.

The long queues at the free test stations, which are literally springing up like mushrooms, speak a language all of their own. The rule is four hours of waiting for a quick test, the result of which only arrives three days later.
