Dusseldorf While the number of infections in Germany is declining, certain derivatives of the omicron subvariant BA.5 are evidently becoming increasingly popular. This emerges from the weekly report of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday evening.

Since the end of August and the beginning of September, there has been a significant increase in the proportion of the pathogens BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 in samples, it says.

The corona numbers have recently shown a decreasing trend. “There are signs of a certain relaxation in the number of cases of Covid-19,” writes the RKI in its weekly report. This mostly relates to the past week and includes numerous other indicators in addition to the seven-day incidence.
