The political youth of the FDP has a new top – and wants to attack two giant German institutions.
Franziska Brandmann (27) replaces Jens Teutrine (29), who has been in the Bundestag since this legislature. Brandmann got 182 of the 197 votes and thus 92 percent at the Federal Congress of Young Liberals (JuLis).
And the new JuLi boss has big plans!
“The radio license fee should be reduced!” Demanded Brandmann in her application speech. It could not be “that the professor can watch the three thousandth episode of Rote Rosen in the first”, for which in the end “trainees, students, volunteers pay a radio fee”, says Brandmann.
She wants to cut public broadcasting by one of the four orders (information, education, culture, entertainment) and thus save money. Your demand: “Political education and information yes, shallow conversation no.”
The JuLi boss wants to split up the state company Deutsche Bahn!
“Finally allow competition in operations, while the state will have its hands full with the expansion and maintenance of the network in the future”, so their idea – then unpunctual trains and poor service will hopefully soon be a thing of the past.
Clear announcement to the FDP
The FDP was the most popular party among the first-time voters in the federal election – probably also a credit to the JuLi election campaign, which addressed issues such as cannabis legalization, equal educational opportunities or freedom in all areas of life.
The top result among young voters is not a reward for the work in the election campaign, “but a leap of faith,” warned Brandmann with a view to the FDP around party leader Christian Lindner.
The FDP youngsters understand the result as an “order to consistently stand up for liberal politics in the next four years,” said Brandmann.
