What is Apple Communications Security?
Communication Security aims to prevent minors from being exposed to unwanted photos containing inappropriate content.
In the statement made by Apple; Communication Security is designed to detect nudity in photos sent or received by children. In the Messages app on iPhone or iPad devices, it scans images and blurs the photo when it detects nudity.
When users touch the blurred image, the child is warned that the image is sensitive. This warning shows the message “body parts are usually covered with underwear or swimsuits”. This feature explains that photos containing nudity “can be used to hurt you” and that the person in the photo may not want to be seen if shared without permission.
Apple also shows kids ways to get help by texting an adult they trust in their life. There are two toggle screens that explain why a child might not want to see a nude photo. However, a child can still choose to view the photo. That’s why Apple doesn’t restrict access to content, it just provides guidance.
This feature will be available for everyone with iOS 15.2 but will be optional. With the Family Sharing feature in the Apple ecosystem, children under the age of 18 can be controlled by their parents.
