Netflix: streaming service brings out first smartphone games for subscribers – game news

After months of preparation, Netflix has started its expansion into the gaming business!

The video streaming service made the first five smartphone games available to subscribers on Tuesday. Initially, they can only be played on phones with the Google Android operating system. The implementation for Apple’s iPhones is in progress.

The first titles include two games that are based on the successful Netflix series “Stranger Things”. In the games there is no advertising, no additional fees and no in-app purchases, as Netflix emphasized. The Netflix subscribers get the games in the Android app of the streaming service. They are not available in child profiles.

Netflix’s plans to make games another pillar alongside its core video streaming business have been known for a long time. It was only at the end of September that Netflix swallowed the developer company Night School Studio, which was founded in 2014 and is best known for its debut game “Oxenfree”.

Since June, the service has also been trying to generate additional revenue through an online shop for fan articles.

This is how you find the games

When logging in with their Netflix profile, members with an Android phone will see a games row and tab from which they can select games to download. A series of games will be displayed to members with an Android tablet. Alternatively, you can select games via the drop-down menu “Categories”.
