Netflix star has both breasts amputated: after cancer shock – people

Miranda McKeon (19) plays the young Josie Pye in the Netflix series “Anne with E”, a student who targets the main character Anne with nasty slogans. In real life, Miranda is anything but mean, rather she wants to encourage others with her own fate. The young actress has breast cancer and is fighting it with all her might.

In the summer, the 19-year-old revealed that a malicious lump was found in her breast. The result: weeks of chemotherapy. Miranda even had her eggs frozen. For fear of not being able to have any more children after the therapy.

Now Miranda McKeon took the next drastic measure: To prevent the cancer from recurring, she had both breasts amputated.

A bilateral mastectomy guarantees her “to be free from cancer,” explains the actress. McKeon on Instagram: “After months of searching, I finally found the right doctor”. In San Francisco, the young woman wants to be operated on by a team of specialists.

What is special about the operating room: Miranda has opted for a sensation-preserving mastectomy. In other words: Here the nerves are severed more carefully. So a feeling should remain in the bosom. “It will take a while, but I’m so grateful that I’ll look and feel like myself again,” said McKeon.

After the operation, the last step towards a hopefully cancer-free life begins: radiation therapy. This is to destroy the last remaining cancer cells. Only one in three million young women her age will have stage three breast cancer.

Miranda told People magazine that in June she “felt about a lump” that she had never noticed before and that she “immediately assumed the worst” in her head.

It turned out that she was right to be concerned: it was actually cancer. Looking back, a cold shiver runs down her spine at the memory. “I think it’s a movie-like moment in a person’s life,” she said, “Good Morning America“. “Somehow I didn’t have the feeling that it was real.”

Despite her young age, she wants to stay positive and has been giving regular updates on her recovery process ever since.
