Seoul North Korea has appointed a key negotiator for North Korea’s nuclear weapons program as foreign minister. North Korea’s state news agency KCNA reported Choe Son Hui’s appointment after the end of a three-day plenary session of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea chaired by ruler Kim Jong Un.

At the meeting, Kim presented goals to strengthen military power to protect North Korea’s sovereign rights, KCNA reports without giving further details.

“The right to self-defense is a matter of defending sovereignty and once again demonstrates the party’s unchanging principle of struggle: might for might and fighting head-on,” KCNA leader Kim Jong Un was quoted as saying.

Choe Son Hui’s appointment came shortly after a US warning that North Korea was planning a seventh nuclear test. In this case, the USA wants to press again for United Nations sanctions against North Korea.
