Fiber infrastructure reached 471 thousand kilometers in Turkey
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure stated that internet infrastructure investments continue without slowing down and announced that fiber infrastructure reached 471 thousand kilometers in 2021, and the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers increased by 27.5 percent to 204.4 GB. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the total number of broadband internet subscribers, 70 million of which is mobile, has increased to 88.2 million.
He made a written statement about the communication sector. Pointing out that the internet infrastructure has gained importance with the developing technology, it was noted that fiber infrastructure is important in the development of both broadband internet and mobile technologies.
Pointing out that the fiber infrastructure increased by 11 percent and reached 471 thousand kilometers in 2021, it was emphasized that the number of fiber internet subscribers exceeded 4.8 million with an increase of approximately 21 percent.
Monthly data usage 204.5 GB
Underlining that while the number of broadband internet subscribers increased, there was a great increase in the usage of subscribers at the same time, the statement said, “In 2021, the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers increased by 27.5 percent and reached 204.4 GB.
While the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 177.6 GB in the last quarter of 2020, this figure increased by more than 15 percent to 204.4 GB in the last quarter of 2021. For mobile subscribers, data usage, which was 9.9 GB in the fourth quarter of 2020, increased by 10.3 percent to 11 GB.
Internet subscribers 88.2 million
In the statement, which is stated to be more accessible with each passing day, it was pointed out that the total number of broadband internet subscribers, 70 million of which is mobile, has increased to 88.2 million. It was noted in the statement that the number of subscribers increased by more than 5.8 million, and it was emphasized that the number of subscribers to the “Fiber to the Home” service increased by 29.4 percent in 2021.
In the statement, it was stated that the investments were also reflected in the phone traffic, and it was recorded that the total phone traffic reached 318 billion minutes in 2021, an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous year. Pointing out that approximately 98 percent of this traffic is made from mobile networks, it was stated that the traffic initiated in fixed networks is 5.2 billion minutes.
