Electric scooter startup Martı announced that it is working on a local map and city navigation service. It is stated that the new service will be a domestic alternative to Google Maps.
Electric scooter initiative founded in 2019 Seagullhad succeeded in becoming one of Turkey’s largest enterprises in the last four years. The company has recently introduced a new service called TAG (Let’s Go With One Vehicle), which allows people going to the same direction to travel together. This service also caused tension between Martı and taxi drivers.
Today, it has been revealed that Martı, which has millions of users, plans to launch a new service soon. In statements from the company, a local map and city navigation service is being worked on.
Seagull is working on its own navigation system
According to information from Anadolu Agency, the giant enterprise only with Turkish engineers started to work on the local map and urban navigation system to be created. With the journey data owned by the company, a native alternative to navigation was expressed to be created.
First tests of the new service, which will look like Google Maps, according to Martı via TAG and the system will be improved with the obtained data. The company aims to enable people in major cities to take the least-traffic, cost-effective routes.

Oğuz Alper Öktem, the founder and CEO of Martı, also made statements on Twitter regarding the new services they are planning. Öktem said that a local alternative to Google Map and Yandex is needed and used the following statements:
“As Martı, we started the tests to implement our local map and city navigation service entirely with Turkish engineers. We do the first tests within the TAG application. A native alternative to Google Map and Yandex is required.”
