Mars helicopter is on the scene after a long time!

Designed to observe Mars from the air, Ingenuity has made history so far with its flights. Ingenuity, which has been on its mission on Mars for a long time, has not been heard from for a while. However, the latest information seems to have relieved NASA.

Reconnected with Ingenuity after a long time

The Mars helicopter was in the air on April 26, when NASA last made contact with Ingenuity. After more than 2 months, the space agency has finally announced that it has reconnected with Ingenuity. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California also gave the good news that there were no problems.

While NASA states that this communication interruption is not an unexpected situation, it is stated that this problem is caused by a hill between Ingenuity and Perseverance. As Perseverance acts as a radio relay between the mission controllers at JPL and Ingenuity, the connection between the Mars helicopter and Earth has been temporarily cut off.

JPL said they were able to reconnect with Ingenuity on June 28 when Perseverance reached the top of the hill and was within sight of the 4 kilo and approximately 50 cm long helicopter. With connectivity restored, JPL was able to download data for its 52nd flight on April 26.

Relieved by the re-establishment of the connection, he confirmed that the helicopter had successfully landed after a 139-second flight covering a distance of 363 meters. JPL will run various tests to test for any ill effects during the downtime from Ingenuity. If the Mars helicopter passes the controls, it will take to the skies again with its 53rd flight in the next few weeks.
