macOS Monterey 12.3 is out: Universal control is here!

Apple for Macs at the same time as iOS / iPadOS 15.4 update macOS Monterey 12.3 also released the update. One of the most important factors in the simultaneous release of both updates is the Universal Control feature. Thanks to this feature, it is possible to control the iPad directly from Mac computers, and it is also possible to transfer files between the two devices.

To use this feature, simply update your Mac computer to version 12.3 and your iPad to version 15.4, Universal Control is automatically activated.

What’s new in macOS Monterey 12.3

The update brings melting face, biting lip, heart hands, bubbles, beans, cross-mouthed face, palm up hand, egg, troll, low battery, coral, lotus and many more emojis to Mac models. Customizable spatial audio settings for Off, Fixed, and Head Tracking have been added to Control Center, while AirPods are now able to update when connected to a Mac.

Universal Control (beta)

  • Universal Control lets you use a single mouse and keyboard on iPad and Mac
  • Text can be written on Mac or iPad and you can drag and drop files between the two

Spatial Audio

  • Dynamic head tracking available in Music with AirPods supported on Mac computers with M1 chip
  • Customizable spatial audio settings for Off, Fixed and Head Tracking are now in Control Center with supported AirPods on Mac computers with M1 chip

  • New emojis including faces, gestures and household items are available in emoji keyboard
  • The handshake emoji lets you choose a different skin tone for each hand

This version also includes the following improvements for your Mac:

  • Podcasts app adds episode filter for seasons, played, unplayed, recorded and downloaded episodes
  • Safari web page translation adds support for Italian and Chinese (Traditional)
  • Shortcuts now support adding, deleting, and querying tags in Reminders
  • Saved passwords now include your own notes
  • Improved accuracy in battery capacity readings

This version also includes bug fixes for your Mac:

  • Distortion of sound when watching videos in the Apple TV app
  • Unintentional migration of some photos and videos while editing albums in Photos
