M3 MacBook Air Heated Up to 114°C in Performance Test

MacBook Air with M3 processor underwent heavy performance tests. Although Apple’s new laptop was capable of high performance, it got incredibly hot in return.

As expected, Apple quietly announced the MacBook Air model with the M3 processor last week. Since the M3 processor is ARM-based, it offers high performance and consumes much less power. The problem is that the M3 processor fails as usual when it reaches high performances. it gets very hot and Apple did not put a cooling fan in the case in order not to compromise the lightness and thinness of the device.

YouTube channel Max Tech put the 15-inch M3 MacBook Air model to 3DMark Wild Life Extreme and Cinebench 2024 tests. The M3 MacBook Air managed to handle the heavy workload placed on its CPU and GPU during testing, and it really delivered a tremendous performance. However, this performance also had a price that was hard to bear; excessively high heating.

M3 MacBook Air’s CPU heated up to 107 degrees

As you can see in the video, the core that gets heated the most in the heart of the M3 MacBook Air is temperature; It reached as high as 114 degrees Celsius during testing. In addition, the average temperature of the CPU increased to 107 degrees and the average temperature of the GPU increased to 103 degrees. The highest temperature measured on the surface of the device was 46 degrees Celsius.

The M3 MacBook Air is definitely a high-performance device. However, as you can imagine, the fact that the device reaches such high temperatures performance losses brings it to life. Moreover, how long can you put such a high-temperature device on your lap and work on it? This is another question mark.
