Lufthansa is canceling almost the entire program due to warning strikes

Frankfurt Because of the Verdi warning strike on Wednesday, Lufthansa is canceling almost all flights at the affected airports. “Lufthansa has had to cancel almost the entire flight program at the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich for Wednesday,” the airline announced on Tuesday. The Verdi union had called on the approximately 20,000 ground workers to take part in a widespread work stoppage in order to put pressure on the ongoing salary negotiations.

Verdi described an initial offer from Lufthansa as insufficient. Lufthansa HR Director Michael Niggemann criticized the strike announcement: “The early escalation after only two days of negotiations in a wage round that has so far been constructive is causing enormous damage.”

According to its own statements, Lufthansa is canceling a total of 678 flights at Frankfurt Airport, 32 of them on Tuesday. At the hub in Munich there were a total of 345 flights on both days. Individual flight cancellations and delays are still possible on Thursday and Friday.
