Standard USB-C port is on the agenda of the US Department of Commerce
The European Union (EU) is reaping the rewards for its long-standing efforts to bring the standard USB-C port. With the voting held on June 7, it was decided to have a common USB-C connection in products such as smartphones and tablets that went on sale in Europe.
This decision, which was welcomed worldwide, is now on the agenda of the USA. The standard USB-C port was brought up by two US Senators. Senators called for the same policy to be implemented in a letter to the Department of Commerce. The following statements were included in the invitation letter:
The European Union (EU) has passed a key law mandating electronics manufacturers to adopt a common charger for mobile devices across the EU. First, we commend the Department of Commerce for the steps it has taken to address these issues. We invite you to follow the EU’s lead by developing a comprehensive strategy to address unnecessary consumer costs, reduce e-waste and restore wisdom and precision to the new electronics purchasing process.
The EU’s standard USB-C port policy will come into effect in 2024. Of course, the first name that comes to mind in this regard is Apple. On the other hand, with this policy, the situation of iPhones is also a matter of curiosity. Important sources sharing information about smartphones state that Apple has accepted the situation.
Apple will introduce the Standard USB-C port to Europe with the iPhone 15 series. Details on the subject have not yet been clarified. On the other hand, this initiative of the USA may completely change Apple’s policy. So much so that in the future Apple-specific lightning entry may be obsolete.
