IAA in Munich – no longer the big money maker

IAA in Munich in September: significantly fewer visitors came to the exhibition grounds than in the past. The open spaces in the city center were all the more popular, although the organizing VDA did not require entry.

Dusseldorf In the spring there was still a massive dispute about the future financing of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), now the top of the association has agreed on a new financial framework with the VDA companies. “There is a model that has been developed and coordinated with the members over the past few months, which we will present at the general meeting on Thursday,” announced VDA President Hildegard Müller in an interview with the Handelsblatt (>> read the detailed interview here).

So far, the most important German industrial association has largely financed itself from its own economic activities, above all through the International Motor Show (IAA) organized by the VDA. The association covered around three quarters of its annual budget of an estimated 20 million euros from the IAA proceeds. The rest came from the contributions of the more than 600 member companies. Not only the large automobile manufacturers such as Volkswagen and BMW, but also many small and medium-sized suppliers are organized in the VDA.
